cyberHUB Warnings

FUNCTIONAL WARNING

The cyberHUB PDI (Proximity Detection Interface) intervenes with the control of the machine speed during crawl events and applies the machine’s brakes during stop events, under explicit digital instruction from the third party PDS (Proximity Detection System).

Where suitably commissioned and maintained, the cyberHUB PDI additionally introduces Speed Brake Interlock and Speed Limiting Control independently of the PDS system to reduce the number of unknown variables that the PDS system needs to accommodate.

Under all conditions, it remains possible for the operator to further reduce machine speed and apply additional braking, more than the interventions applied by the cyberHUB PDI, using the conventional controls provisioned by the machine OEM for that purpose.

The cyberHUB PDI must never be considered as the only control needed to avoid incidents or accidents which have the potential to cause serious injury and death to persons, or damage to objects and machines, operating collocated within the same operational environment.

The cyberHUB PDI system must be installed, commissioned, and maintained by qualified auto-electricians who have been certified by nerospec OSCON to have received the specialized training required to perform such duties.

HAZARD WARNING

The cyberHUB PDI’s ability to slow down or bring a machine to a standstill before an incident occurs is not guaranteed since the PDI is one element in a chain of controls required to achieve such risk mitigation.

The upstream PDS system limitations and the downstream OEM Machine slow down, and braking capabilities are not improved or augmented in any way by the capabilities and performance characteristics of the cyberHUB PDI.

Although the cyberHUB PDI system adds significant features for accurate instantiation, monitoring, recording and playback, these features alone cannot be assumed to ensure the prevention of injury or death as a result of machine to machine, machine to environment or machine to personnel incidents.

The cyberHUB PDI is a merely one sub-component of the more comprehensive on-machine and off-machine incident avoidance risk mitigation strategy.

To accomplish a comprehensive incident mitigation strategy, Nerospec OSCON recommends that the mine operators apply the EMESRT “Vehicle Interaction Defensive Control Model”.  This control model depicts the 9 defensive layers, which together provide differing levels of process controls to avoid unwanted vehicle interaction.  The PDS and PDI control layers relate only to the last three (3) levels of defence Level 7,8 and 9.  The cyberHUB PDI relates only to the final layer 9 preventative control and should not be expected to diminish the requirement for the practice of Levels 1 through Level 8 in any way.
